For this recipe, we recommend using 1 pound of whole pods, but feel free to adjust as needed. 

To make your own vanilla bean paste(you only need a small amount), split open one pod and scrape out the browned flesh inside with a paring knife (don’t worry about getting it all clean!). 

Then, combine both types of scrapings together in an airtight container and store them somewhere cool until ready for use.
